Než si začal říkat Rango a vybájil si spoustu mýtů o svých hrdinských kouscích, obýval chameleon v havajské košili prostorné terárium. Nic mu v něm nechybělo, snad kromě trochy akce. Té si začne naplno užívat, když se nešťastnou náhodou ocitne uprostřed vyprahlé pouště, kde si na něm málem pochutná hladový jestřáb. A aby napětí nebylo málo, jeho další kroky vedou do města jménem Prach, v němž visí obyvatelům kolty proklatě nízko. Ve zdejší nálevně si chameleón vymyslí jméno Rango a pár hrdinských historek, čehož vzápětí lituje...
