"V podstatě si chtějí jen vrznout."... Po tom, co Willa a jeho matku opustil otec, odchází Will kvůli finančním problémův ze soukromé školy a nastupuje na klasickou střední. Zde se snaží začlenit mezi ostatní, ale hned první den si znepřátelí celou školu; nakonec se mu ale přece jen podaří spřátelit se aspoň s někým - s trojicí "Inbetweenerů", t.j. lidí, kteří nepatří ani mezi školskou elitu, ani mezi úplné šprty; lidí stojících uprostřed společenského žebříčku.
